Getting confident with parking
Car park strategies
Car parks are where many new drivers feel most anxious. Here's how to approach them:
- Drive slowly. there's no rush
- Look for end spaces or spaces with empty neighbours
- Reverse parking gives you better visibility when leaving
- Use your mirrors constantly
- It's fine to drive past and come around again
Parallel parking in practice
Unlike test conditions, real parallel parking means:
- Spaces may be tighter
- Traffic may be waiting
- You might need multiple adjustments
Take your time. other drivers were learners once too.
Supermarket car parks
- Go at quieter times to practise
- Park further from the store where it's emptier
- Watch for pedestrians with trolleys
- Be aware of children
Multi-storey car parks
- Know your car's height before entering
- Take corners slowly. visibility is limited
- Use mirrors on tight bends
- Note where you parked. take a photo if needed
