Everything you need to become a qualified driving instructor

The ADI Qualification Path

Part 1

Theory Test

Multiple choice and hazard perception (similar to learner test but harder)

Pass rate: ~50%£81

Part 2

Driving Ability

Demonstrate an excellent standard of driving (1 hour test)

Pass rate: ~50%£111

Part 3

Teaching Ability

Demonstrate your ability to teach (1 hour practical test)

Pass rate: ~30%£111

Becoming an ADI: What to Expect

Requirements

• Held a full UK driving licence for 3+ years
• Pass enhanced DBS check
• Be 21 or older
• Meet DVSA eyesight requirements

Timeline & Costs

• Total training: 6-12 months typically
• DVSA fees: ~£300 total
• Training courses: £1,000-3,000
• Dual controls & car: varies
