Commercial Road, Whitechapel Road and Mile End Road carry heavy traffic, bus lanes and cycle lanes. Side streets are narrow, often one way, and some are closed to through traffic by low traffic schemes. Markets on Roman Road and around Brick Lane add pedestrians and vans. It is a demanding place to learn, but it builds strong habits. Quieter streets near Victoria Park and parts of Stepney are where lessons usually begin, and the main roads follow once you are comfortable.

Tower Hamlets packs very different driving into a small borough. Whitechapel and Spitalfields sit on the edge of the City, Bethnal Green and Bow are mostly residential streets with markets and schools, and Poplar, Limehouse and the Isle of Dogs run down to the river and Canary Wharf.

Most of the borough's traffic runs along a few main roads: Commercial Road, Whitechapel Road, Mile End Road and the A12. Off them, streets are narrow and often one way. Learning here is about reading a lot of information quickly and keeping speed low enough to react.
The A12 adds faster traffic on the eastern side of the borough, so learners who live near Bow or Poplar usually get some practice there too, once town driving feels comfortable.

Tower Hamlets has many cycle lanes and several low traffic schemes, and layouts change from time to time. Learners get used to checking for cyclists at every turn and to reading signs rather than relying on habit. Both are things examiners look for.
Some layouts also change during roadworks, so learning to follow temporary signs and diversions calmly is something you get used to here.
First lessons usually use the quieter streets near Victoria Park or in parts of Stepney, where there is space to practise moving off, stopping and simple junctions. The main roads follow once those feel easy. Your instructor will choose streets near your home where possible, so the roads you practise on are the ones you will drive most after you pass.
An intensive course packs your lessons into one or two weeks instead of spreading them over months. It suits people who can clear their diary, and it works best when you already have a theory pass and a practical test date, because the course is planned to finish just before the test.
Our courses run about four hours a day with the same instructor. On Tower Hamlets roads that builds confidence quickly, and four hours is about as much busy city driving as most learners can take in at once.
