Romford sits between two test centres, Hornchurch (5 to 10 minutes south) and Goodmayes (10 to 15 minutes west), so you get a genuine choice rather than being forced onto one. They test different things, Hornchurch leans on the A127 and Roneo Corner, Goodmayes on the Barley Lane Roundabout and the A12. We assess which suits your strengths and prepare you specifically for it. In a single lesson you can move from a quiet Gidea Park street, onto the A12 Eastern Avenue, through the Romford Ring Road one-way system, and out towards either centre. We teach you to read Romford as a system so you know which lane you need before the signs.
Gallows Corner dominates every conversation about learning in Romford. It is a multi-stage A12 and A127 junction with a flyover and it ranks as one of Havering's most-failed test points. Beyond it, the Romford Ring Road one-way system trips up sign-following, and the A12 Eastern Avenue needs confident merging at speed. We introduce Gallows Corner in your first ten hours and keep returning to it, along with the Ring Road and the A12, so they become routine rather than the thing you dread on test day.
We charge the same price for manual and automatic, £33.50 per hour, so the choice is yours and not your wallet's. Automatic suits you if you only plan to drive automatic cars, including the newer hybrids and electrics that are increasingly automatic only, and it lightens the workload on Gallows Corner and the A12. Manual gives you a licence to drive anything in the UK. Around 40 percent of our Romford learners choose automatic and that share rises every year. If you are unsure, take one trial hour in each and decide after.
