That makes it a good place to learn car control, because the streets are calm, but a tricky place to find your way, which matters on the independent driving part of the test. The Heathway is the busiest area, with The Mall, buses and crossings, while Rainham Road, Wood Lane and the roads towards Dagenham Dock bring faster traffic, lorries and bigger junctions. A course here usually moves from the estate streets to the Heathway, then out to the dual carriageways. Lessons can start from home, Becontree station or college.

That is fine when your instructor is giving directions, but the independent driving part of the test asks you to follow signs or a sat nav on your own. Practising on the estate teaches you to keep track of where you are, and to stay calm if you take a wrong turn.
A wrong turn on its own is not a fault.
The Heathway is Dagenham's busiest area, with shoppers, buses and crossings around The Mall. Further south, towards Dagenham Dock, the roads are wider and faster, with lorries and multi lane junctions. Covering both gives you a good spread of the driving an examiner might ask for.
Rainham Road South and Ballards Road link the two, with busy junctions where lane choice and timing matter. By the end of a course here, you will have driven estate streets, a town centre and fast roads, all within a short distance of home.
