Swap your driving test for a sooner date
Waiting months for a practical test? Find another learner who wants your date, then call DVSA together to swap. Free to browse and to post, and we never touch your booking.
How swapping works
1. Post your date
Add your current test centre and date, and the dates you would prefer. It takes a minute and is free.
2. Find a match
Browse learners who want to swap, or wait for an alert when someone whose date suits you appears.
3. Call DVSA together
A swap can only be done by phone. One of you calls DVSA while you are both free, gives the other booking reference, and DVSA rings the other learner to confirm before making the swap.
Swapping is official, and it has rules.DVSA runs the swap itself, by phone. This board only introduces two learners who want each other's dates. We never contact DVSA for you and never touch your booking. Read the official guidance at gov.uk swapping your driving test.
Before you agree a swap, check all four. DVSA will refuse it otherwise.
- At least 10 full working days before the earlier of the two tests. Monday to Saturday count as working days.
- You each have a change left. A swap uses one of your 2 allowed changes.
- Their test centre is yours, one of your 3 nearest, or the centre you first booked.
- Same test type. A weekday test can only swap with another weekday test, an evening or weekend test with the same again.
Share your booking reference and nothing else. DVSA is clear on this: never give another learner your driving licence number, theory test pass certificate number, address, phone number, email address or card details. DriveThruL will never ask you for any of them either.
Only you can swap your own test. You are not allowed to change, swap or cancel a test for somebody else, so your instructor cannot make the call for you. Both learners have to be free to speak to DVSA at the same time, and a swap cannot be done online, by email, by webchat, by text or on social media.
Listings here are swaps only, never sales. Read the official way to find an earlier test.
