Parallel Parking
Reverse parking at the side of the road
Master the art of parking neatly alongside another vehicle, parallel to the kerb. One of the most commonly tested manoeuvres.
Bay Parking
Forward or reverse into a marked bay
Learn to park accurately within a marked bay. both forward and reverse. Essential for car parks and your driving test.
Pull Up on the Right
Reverse 2 car lengths on the right side
Pull up on the opposite side of the road, reverse for about two car lengths, then safely rejoin traffic. A newer test manoeuvre.
Emergency Stop
Stop quickly and safely under control
Demonstrate you can bring the car to a halt quickly and safely in an emergency situation. Only asked in 1 in 3 tests.
What Examiners Look For
Every manoeuvre is assessed on the same three criteria. Nail these and you'll pass.
Control
Smooth steering, proper clutch control, and appropriate speed management throughout the manoeuvre.
Observation
Constant all-round checks. mirrors, blind spots, and awareness of other road users throughout.
Accuracy
Completing the manoeuvre neatly, within safe limits, and reasonably close to the kerb or bay lines.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Not checking mirrors and blind spots before starting
Going too fast. slow speed gives you more control
Over-steering and ending up at the wrong angle
Forgetting to check for pedestrians and cyclists
Panicking when it goes wrong instead of correcting calmly
Not using reference points to guide positioning
