Marcus's story: learning to drive in two weeks
Marcus, 28, had put off learning to drive for years. When a new job offer required a driving licence, he had four weeks to make it happen. "I'd always relied on public transport in London. But this job was in Essex and I had no choice. I needed to drive."
Choosing an intensive course
Marcus chose a 40-hour intensive course spread over two weeks. "I took two weeks off work and dedicated myself completely to learning."
The daily schedule
- Week 1: 4 hours of lessons each day, focusing on basics
- Evenings: Theory test study. 2 hours minimum
- Day 5: Theory test passed
- Week 2: Test routes and manoeuvres
- Day 10: Mock test with instructor
- Day 12: Practical test. passed
Challenges and breakthrough
"By day 3, I was exhausted and questioning if I could do it. My instructor David adjusted the schedule to include more breaks. Day 6 was my breakthrough. suddenly, everything clicked. Clutch control, mirror checks, it all became automatic."
Advice for intensive course students
- Get your theory test booked and passed as soon as possible
- Don't plan anything else during the course
- Sleep well. you need concentration
- Trust your instructor's experience
- Book your practical test early to secure a slot
"I passed with 5 minors and started my new job the following Monday."
