Insider Tips for Belvedere

Routes leave the centre onto Woolwich Road (the A206), turning left or right at the end of the road. It is the first junction of your test, so take your time and look both ways properly.

Most routes use the A2016, which runs as Bronze Age Way and Eastern Way through Thamesmead. It is a dual carriageway with a run of roundabouts, and Eastern Way is 50mph. Pick your lane from the signs on the approach to each roundabout and hold it.

Leaving Eastern Way for Harrow Manorway (the A2041), many routes take a slip road between two roundabouts and then go straight on at two more towards Knee Hill. Read the lane markings at each one rather than following the car in front.

Routes to the south work the residential streets towards Bexleyheath: Bedonwell Road, Hythe Avenue, The Pantiles, Little Heath Road, Dunwich Road and Long Lane. Expect a long run of end of road junctions and small roundabouts.

Routes to the south west go through Abbey Wood on Brampton Road, Longleigh Lane and Bostall Hill (the A206), then Basildon Road and McLeod Road. A few reach Plumstead High Street and Western Way.

Routes to the east take Erith Road and Bexley Road, with loops round Park Crescent and Lesney Park in Erith, before joining Bronze Age Way.

Most routes finish through Picardy Road or Erith Road to Nuxley Road, then Albert Road back to the centre. Keep concentrating until the examiner tells you the test is over.
